Coronavirus: Spain going into lockdown as France closes all ‘non-essential’ shops
Madrid is to impose tight movement restrictions on the nation’s 47 million citizens as part of a two-week state of emergency.
Spain is going into lockdown and France is closing all “non-essential” shops over the coronavirus pandemic.
People in Spain will only be allowed to leave their homes to buy food and medicine, commute to work, or go to provide care.
France has shut down most shops, restaurants and entertainment facilities – including ski resorts – from midnight on Saturday as part of measures to contain the spread of COVID-19, which has claimed 91 lives in the country.
According to Head of the French Public Health Authority he said close to 4,500 people have been tested positive for coronavirus in France, and 300 people under going intensive care.
The French Prime Minister; Edouard Philippe told reporters that some shops are exempted from the ban such as Food Stores, Pharmacies and Gas Stations (Petrol Stations) while Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said his government is to impose movement restrictions on his citizens as state of emergency is declared.
