Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) Donates Medical Equipment to Lagos State Primary Health Care Board (LSPHCB)

The Lagos State Primary Health Care Board (LSPHCB) received a donation of Medical Equipment from the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research in conjunction with the New York University and Saint Louis University, Missouri, USA in its Task Strengthening Strategy for Hypertension (TASSH) control project.

Prof. Oliver C. Ezechi, the Director-General of Center for Reproductive and Population Health Studies (CRePHs) Department of Clinical Services while handing over the equipment yesterday,  3rd of August, 2021 at the Nigerian Medical Research Institute, Yaba said the goal of the project is to integrate hypertension care into the clinics with existing Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) services in Lagos using a task strengthen Strategy in an effort to control hypertension and improve the quality of life of persons living with HIV.

The Permanent Secretary to the Lagos State Primary Health Care Board, Dr. Ibrahim Akinwunmi Mustafa while receiving the gifts appreciated the kind gesture of the institute to the Lagos State Government, which no doubt has the passion to give the citizenry the opportunity to appreciate the vision of “A Greater Lagos” as encapsulated in the T.H.E.M.E.S agenda of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu Administration of which health plays a prominent role.

Dr. Mustafa added that the Lagos Government has a moral duty to provide Basic Health Care for her people, especially those who cannot afford it, “a donation of this kind not only complements the State Agenda but also helps to get us more focus and committed in the execution of health projects.”

The collaboration is currently implementing a project integration of hypertension management into HIV care in Nigeria. A task strengthening strategy through a grant received from the United States National Institute of Health (NIH) National Heart, Lungs, and Blood Institute.
