Novel Oral Polio vaccine to all children, aged 0 to 5 years
Lagos State Government in Collaboration with Development Partners (WHO, UNICEF, CHAI, ROTARY, etc) is implementing a round of house-to-house Polio Outbreak Response across all communities of the Local Government Areas/Local Council Development Areas of Lagos State in July 2023.
The objective is to give two drops of the Novel Oral Polio vaccine to all children, aged 0 to 5 years irrespective of their previous immunisation status. The vaccination exercise is to boost the immunity of the target group against the circulating poliovirus. During this campaign, Vitamin A supplement will be administered orally to children aged 6 months to 5 years, while deworming tablets will be given to children aged 1 year to 5 years. Also, all children under 5 years will be screened for malnutrition using muac tape.
The exercise is scheduled to commence on Saturday 22nd and end on Tuesday 25th of July 2023 beginning at 7:00 AM daily.
Please note that all structures where children could be found, that is, Primary Health Centres, hospitals, houses, schools, Churches, mosques, Qur’anic schools, Ile-kewu, markets, shopping malls, playgrounds, gated estates, etc. would be visited.
Lagos State residents are urged to cooperate with Government Officials in this exercise by making their children available, in order to eradicate other forms of Circulating Poliovirus (CVPV2) currently in some specific areas of the State.
nOPV2 is novel oral poliomyelitis (polio) vaccine type 2 developed to address the evolving risk of circulating poliovirus type 2 (cVDPV2).
The Polio vaccine is safe, free, and effective.
