NANNM Lagos Chapter Hosts PAPHNN Meeting, Encourages Continued Professional Development
The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Lagos State Chapter, held the general meeting of the Professional Association of Public Health Nurses of Nigeria (PAPHNN) today at the Nurse’s House, NANNM Secretariat Amaraolu, Ikeja Lagos.
The meeting focused on empowering members to stay relevant in the ever-evolving healthcare industry. had Mrs. Anne Oyesanya, Director, Directorate of Nursing Services, Lagos State Primary Health Care Board, as the special guest speaker.
In her opening remarks, Mrs. Oyesanya encouraged members to go beyond their current accomplishments and pursue further academic endeavors within the profession. “Staying relevant in today’s society requires continuous learning and development,” she emphasized.
According to Nr. Lateef Yusuf Mary who delivered the lecture for the day, said Public Health Nurses play crucial roles in preventive and promotive care in the healthcare industry, through education, empowering communities to adopt healthy lifestyles, preventing diseases like diabetes, hypertension, and obesity, which are common silent killers, conducting screenings and assessments and also identify health risks early, averting potential crises.
Speaking further, she noted that they also facilitate immunization programs, curbing the spread of infectious diseases through outreach initiatives, promoting mental health awareness and providing support to vulnerable populations, reducing stigma, and improving access to care.
Their advocacy for health policies ensures the equitable distribution of resources and services, ultimately enhancing the overall well-being of the communities they serve.
In her final charge, the Chairman of the Association, Nr. Esther Ada Uwah encouraged all members to actively participate in conferences as this would go a long way in sharpening their skills for effective service delivery.
She affirmed that the organization actively promotes continuing education and fosters a culture of lifelong learning amongst its members.
