Lagos State Primary Health Care Board and Health District II on advocacy visit to His Royal Majesty, Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, Ayangburen of Ikorodu Land and to the LGA Chairman on the Community Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response (cMPDSR) pilot to take place in Ikorodu LGA

Data on Nigeria shows that three out of every five women give birth at home without a skilled birth attendant present (NDHS, 2018). With the implementation of the cMPDSR program, LSPHCB seeks to better understand the realities of maternal and newborn health at the community level particularly during pregnancy and at delivery, towards preventing avoidable deaths. Tracking and monitoring maternal and newborn deaths, and understanding their causes provides a clear picture of the determinants of health, specific to each ward, that influence health outcomes in the community.

The data obtained will be used for decision-making at both community and state level to design interventions aimed at reducing maternal and newborn deaths in Lagos State. By implementing the Community Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response (c-MPDSR) system , Lagos State is poised to track and monitor maternal and newborn deaths at the community level as part of the State Government’s ongoing efforts to reduce maternal and perinatal deaths.
