A resourceful and pragmatic Medical Doctor with excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, Dr Omowunmi Qubrat Bakare is a Fellow of the Faculty of Public Health of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (FMCPH) and a Consultant Public Health Physician for about twelve years now. Born in 1964, she graduated from the prestigious College of Medicine of the University of Lagos in 1989 and holds a Master’s in Public Health (MPH).
Dr Omowunmi Bakare began her civil service career in 1999 with the National Programme on Immunization – Polio Eradication (a parastatal of the Federal Ministry of Health). She then joined the services of the Lagos state government in the Ministry of Health as a Medical Officer in 2001 and diligently served in the various directorates of the Ministry. These included Healthcare Planning, Research & Statistics, Family Health & Nutrition and Disease control where she coordinated several public health programmes – Health Management Information System (HMIS), Safe Motherhood, Reproductive Health, Cervical Cancer Control, Rural Health and Malaria Control etc. Dr Omowunmi Bakare is experienced in designing, planning and executing public health programmes with full community engagement/involvement.
